What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used forms of traditional medicine in the world–dating back for at least 2,500 years. The general premise of acupuncture is based on the Traditional Chinese Medical system that theorized that there are patterns of energy flow called Qi (pronounced “chee”) throughout the body that are essential for optimal health.  A disease or disorder is the consequence of an imbalance or blockage of this energy.  By asking about the patient’s health history, feeling the pulse and looking at the tongue, the acupuncturist determines the area of imbalance or blockage, and inserting very fine solid needles into acupoints on the body, treats the person by restoring balance or removing blockages.

The needles used in this clinic are disposable “one time use” stainless steel needles.
